Here you will
learn a little about me and my family. My name is Lisa Vaught.
I have a husband, Mike Vaught, and two very wonderful children. We
also have a dog named "Booger"--yes, that's right! My son named him
that when he was only two years old. Most of the time we just call
him "Boo".
Before becoming a teacher I worked as a dental hygienest for 3 years. The best part of my day was when a child was sitting in my chair. I enjoyed talking to children and helping to ease their fears about being in an unfamilar place. Part of my job as a hygienst was to "teach" patients about proper nutrition and how to take good care of their teeth. Sometimes I was even asked to visit area schools and daycares to teach students about nutrition and proper dental care or to do dental health screenings. While visiting the schools I often wondered what it would be like to be a classroom teacher. Finally I decided to give it a try. I returned to Western and earned my teaching certificate. I have never once regretted this decision. I love teaching young children!
For six years I taught
primary (combined 1st - 2nd grade) at Natcher Elementary in Warren County.
Then my husband got a new job in another county so we all moved to Barren
County. I taught 2nd grade for one year followed by Kindergarten.
God bless kindergarten teachers! This year I will be teaching my
favorite grade - 1st! When I first envisioned myself as a teacher,
I saw myself teaching 1st grade. I believe that is because of the
wonderful influence of my own first grade teacher. First grade was
such a memorable year for me. At the end of the school year my family
and I were getting ready to move away from the only home I had ever known
to move to Kentucky. I was very sad about this and my teacher knew
that I was. One afternoon she invited me and my mother out to eat.
Before we left she gave me a very special present. The present
was a cloth change purse in the shape of a ladybug. She loved ladybugs!
She had two of these just alike and thought that I would like to have one.
I still have this treasured gift and have been collecting ladybugs on and
off ever since. Every time I see one I am reminded of this very special
teacher.
